O viata numai buna de pus in cuvinte pentru posteritate, cum ar spune Garcia-Marquez: I enjoyed this book but it was filled with unnecessary information.
I felt like reading it throughout the end was so boring and long. Chanel had a interesting but sad life. COCO Chanel She strived for success in a fashion world and while she gained it, did she lose happiness along the way? Absent from family life she looked for happiness amongst men, which she was only to find for brief fluttering moments. An admirable lady for her shire determination to make something of herself. The world identifies haute I enjoyed this book but it was filled with unnecessary information.
The world identifies haute couture with her name, numerous men loved her and socialites admired her, yet she was to die alone. Making a final comeback in fashion and dedicating the last remains of her life to her work, left her solitary and low in spirits.
A remarkable life that went throughout all classes of society, was a life unforgettable. Chanel lives on through her fashion label and her presence is greatly seen within the label. Feb 25, Maria rated it liked it Shelves: Pfew, this was a loooong book. What it really-really needed are some illustrations, because, for someone outside of the fashion world like me, the genius of Chanel is lost when translated only in words.
There were photos to which the author is referring, from which she draws conclusions, but I wasn't able to locate them in order to validate the point. Overall, this is a good book, well documented, with a good balance between author's opinions and facts. I was so disappointed reading this book. I'm fascinated by Chanel's story and this book didn't give me what I wanted.
It took so much time talking about other people's lifes. Her own story doesn't event start until 60 pages in and the second part of the book. So many digressions made the timeline a bit confusing.
And the author took so much pleasure in quoting things that weren't even of the time. That's why it took me so long to read and I finished it because I wanted it to be over before the e I was so disappointed reading this book. That's why it took me so long to read and I finished it because I wanted it to be over before the end of the year. Edmonde does not gloss over anything.
The good, bad and at times downright despicable aspects of her personality are all explored to the fullest. Written with sensitivity to the subject, as well as to others who knew her and were alive at the time of writing the book was published in , and with a mix of wicked humour, this book is a must read for anyone interested in the woman behind the legend.

However, author of the book is a graphomaniac with special love for long complicated sentences, which make you forget the start by the time you finish them.

Sometimes going into too much details as well, which were either author's fantasy or guess. Aug 13, Andra rated it it was ok.
Interesting book about Coco, interesting caractere with such a fascinating success, parcour and life. The writing in the first half of the book makes makes it more difficult to read than the second half which becomes more and more fluid and the story more and more fascinating.

I am not a big fashionista, nor will I be, so I was not particularly interested in Coco Chanel - the fashion influencer. However, having received this book as a gift, I dived right into it, hoping that the exciting life of Coco would entrance me and make me finish the book in no time. Perhaps the parents married in? What on earth has happened to the content of this page? Despite my relative lack of knowledge about Chanel, even I know this is not the correct biography.
Ingvar A shocking amount of this article seems to be based on a very recent book by Vaughn, and the quality of that book, at least according to the very few reviews on site, seems dubious at best. With the aid of Balsan and another rich lover Arthur "Boy" Capel d. Her hats were worn by celebrated French actresses, which helped to establish her reputation. No mention of the circumstances of her death here Questions--as I understand it, the Wertheimer family 'owned' Chanel lock and stock; therefore some business history might be an important addition rather than stating blandly that she was 'wealthy.

Since the French government accommodated the German forces in a corridor through France to the Channel ports to guard against a British attack, and Paris was an 'open city,' for whom and on whom would Dincklage have been 'spying'?
The Bolshevik terrorists in Paris who took over and arrested Chanel after the Allies occupied the city? If so, would that be 'spying' or 'Intelligence'? And in para. Early in the film, after she decided to stay at Balsan's place, she rode out on the Grey horse to the picnic he was having with the actress.
The actress mentioned she may find women more interesting than men, all the while looking coquettishly at Coco, and Coco decidedly returning her gaze.
I saw a definite lesbian wink there. Gabrielle Chanel's birth certificate appears with an "S".

Also the name "Bonheur" does nowhere exist. The spelling discrepancy on the birth certificate is discussed in the article. Multiple sources including many pre-Wikipedia sources cite Bonheur as her middle name, which she clearly assumed. Just because it isn't on her birth certificate does not give you carte blanche to delete it.
Also, do not change widely accepted, widely-known spellings in ledes. She called herself Chanel, not Chasnel.

Simpson Sun tanning[ edit ] Before the 's, sun tans were thought of as being something only the lower classes did. Then Coco accidentally got a suntan and it caught on like wildfire. To this day, the fad of suntanning is alive and well, even though prior to Coco it was thought of as being completely tasteless. Maybe this fact does not deserve a mention, but it seems important enough to include in the article to me.
See the wikicode for the references to this: The refs immediately preceding this sentence are fully formatted and should be adequate for the addition of her starting the suntan fad. Please feel free to add this to the article if you think it worthwhile of including. Unfortunately, I'm about to head out on long term leave and so cannot edit the article myself.
